About those Icelanders ...

The review in Jyllands-Posten was the first since the proper publication of The People in the Basement in Denmark on September 29th. And what a review by Henriette Bacher Lind. What praise!

There is something about those Icelanders! Audur Jonsdottir is no exception to the rule. Her first novel for adults is a tale of glorious proportions. Grand in its ambition and precise in its expression. Absurd, because reality is absurd, and serious, because life is incredibly serious (...)

This is one of those novels that sink in to you. Like a mood. Like a fluctuating change of colour from dark to light. Like an unspoken wish.(Read the rest in Danish here)

Due to a small error on the book sleeve, Jyllands-Posten claims that this is Audurs first Novel for grownups, although this is her third. The error has occurred because the right word for Novel is Roman in Danish. This is a small matter, and something linguists can muse about in the late hours. The People in the Basement is indeed Audurs first novel to be translated to Danish.

Humour and satirical bite

Another favourable review has appeared in Information. This time by Eric Skyum Nielsen.

Audur Jonsdottir writes in an engaging style about a woman who frees herself with great difficultly from postmodernistic indifference. (...)
